Foreclosure Prevention Counseling CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc.’s Foreclosure Prevention Counseling is a free service designed to assist homeowners in danger of foreclosure due to delinquent mortgage payments. In one-on-one sessions, counselors explore the reasons for default, verify arrears, conduct a budget analysis with the homeowner, and serve as a liaison between the homeowner and their mortgage company in attempt to resolve the delinquency. Counseling seeks to break a major barrier in the foreclosure process, which is lack of communication between the homeowner and lender. Lender programs exist to lower a borrower’s interest rate, lower their monthly payment, or establish a repayment agreement; however, homeowners must first overcome their fear and discomfort so they will initiate contact with their lender. Our counselors help homeowner’s through this difficulty and provide them with support and assistance as they complete paperwork required by the lender, which often includes a hardship letter and documentation of the family’s financial situation. Foreclosure Counseling sessions may be schedule by contacting Mildred Willingham at (706) 724-8588. Items required for your first session include: picture I.D., social security cards for all household members, verification of household income, verification of debts and household expenses, correspondence received from lender and original loan documents received at closing.
